ALTRUISM IS A CURIOUS SYMPTOM ON AN ALL-NEW "HOUSE" MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, ON FOX

Olivia Wilde and Wentworth Miller (³Prison Break²) Guest Star

When Benjamin (guest star Wentworth Miller) suddenly collapses after making a rare and generous donation, House and Dr. Chi Park are convinced that his extreme altruistic behavior may indicate a deeper medical disorder. With no definitive explanation for Benjamin¹s loss of consciousness and unresponsiveness to treatment, House pushes just the right buttons to recruit former prison doctor Jessica Adams to volunteer her time and expertise to the case. Benjamin then makes a bold but life-threatening offer that could save another life, and the team must diagnose his disorder before he puts his own life on the line. Meanwhile, Adams and Park test each other's outlook on generosity and gratitude, and Thirteen¹s guilt conflicts with her pursuit of personal happiness on an all-new "Charity Case" episode of HOUSE airing Monday, Oct. 17 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (HOU-803) (TV-14 D, L)
Timeline
Patient of the Week
Benjamin, a very rich man who has developed a desire/need/obsession to give away huge amounts of money, Collapses after leaving a donation.
How House gets involved:
Park brings him the case and he takes it because he finds out the man is rich and giving away money and House thinks he might fund his department.
The privacy invasion / ethical breach / Rule Breaking
House tries to con the patient into funding his department, although it could be an attempt at diagnosis as well. But then he asks Wilson if he can take the money.
Preliminary diagnoses:
Park thinks it is dehydration. But then he has heart problems and Parks then moves to Whipple’s disease which House dismisses until Thirteen later comes up with the same thing. Also suggested are Graves disease and Coxsackie B virus. Thyroid disease is also mentioned.
The final diagnosis
Plummer’s Disease with a nodule having problems that can even cause personality changes. House has made this worse by ordering a CT scan which included iodine
Who Came up with final diagnosis
House.
Clinic Patients
Young boy who is allergic to his mother's hand cream which he has been using as a lubricant.
Additional Information:
  • Thirteen comes back but then House fires her so she can spend her time being happy instead of working out of guilt.

Quotes, Quotations, Dialogue, Scenes:
  • Adams shows up because House invited her for coffee and she gets roped into working on the case. Park resents her and fears for her own job. She claims that the patient is just dehydrated. House asks Adams, "What happened the last time another doctor told you I was wrong?"
       "I lost my job."
       "You saved a life,"

  • House tells Foreman that Chase and Taub are willing to come back. He dismisses Thirteen and Foreman reads that as: "She's not returning your calls."
       "She will"
Thirteen shows up in the lobby. "I need you to stop..."
"I'm putting the band back together...."
Thirteen winders why he didn't just show up at her apartment. "I'm guessing ankle bracelet."
"Guilty as charged." House shows her the ankle bracelet "Literally."
They spar some more. "You met a boy" House pauses, "Or a girl. And your going to Thailand"
       "Girl and Mykonos."
"Please stop calling me." She turns to walk out.
"No... Mixed messages... I choose to listen to your actions."
Later they talk on the phone and Thirteen tells him she was wrong. "I do't want to come back to work for you. But i was wrong to try and push you out of my life."

  • Adams is impressed with the patient who is giving away so much of his money. "You scare me a little."
"I've been thinking of applying to Doctors without Borders....Why?"
"You don't scare her. You make her feel guilty."

  • House wants to get the patient to fund his Diagnostic Department. Everyone tells him, he can't take advantage of the patient "I'm told some people are just nice. I'm trying to embrace that wisdom..."
So House goes to talk to the patient and tells him his sob story about how his actions resulted in the loss of his department. The patient immediately offers him a million dollars. "Wow! I'm an opportunistic ex-con." Then he tells him that he made the promise too soon. On step 3 instead of step 17.
       "Is that bad?"
"Ethics are not my strong suit...."
He later goes to ask Wilson in a round about way but he knows that he is asking and immediately says he can't take the patient's money. But House counters that it probably isn't a symptom. "He probably is a really, really decent person. They exist, right?"
"You can't take his money, House."

  • Adams and Park are having a problem. Adams keeps giving Park gifts and won't take anything for them without escalating the situation. ""
"You do know I punched the last person who pissed me off?"
       "Was it Santa?"
House asks Park what its all about. " I don't take charity."
       "Good for you. You loon!"
       "I don't like owing people."
House suggests its an "immigrant pride thing."
       "I don't like owing people."
House decides to manipulate the situation for his own advantage and tells Adams she needs to really blow Park out of the water: "You're up against a life time of training."
