MASTERS PASSES HOUSE¹S FINAL EXAM AND THIRTEEN REJOINS THE PRINCETON PLAINSBORO TEAM ON AN ALL-NEW "HOUSE" MONDAY, APRIL 18, ON FOX

Masters faces a career crossroads on her last day as a medical student and struggles with the choice to continue on the path to become a surgeon or to accept the rare opportunity to join House's team officially. Meanwhile, the team treats a 16-year-old girl who inexplicably collapsed days before embarking on an ambitious sailing tour around the globe. Despite the patient's life-changing diagnosis, the patient's family insists on getting her back on the seas in time for her potentially record-breaking launch. But to the team's surprise, including House, Masters makes a bold decision regarding the patient's treatment in the all-new "Last Temptation" episode of HOUSE airing Monday, April 18 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (HOU-719) (TV-14 D, L)
Timeline
The Monday after the last episode ended
Patient of the Week
A 16 year old girl named Kendall who is famous for solo sailing and about to take on an around the world race.
How House gets involved:
House brings the case
The privacy invasion / ethical breach / Rule Breaking
Masters lies at least twice (a first for her) and breaks a rule to save the life of the patient. House tries signs off on a lumbar puncture that Masters needed to graduate but that she didn't do. When he pushes her to turn that in, she is tempted in order to get an internship he is offering (but she resists). And a minor, normal lie from House that Thirteen has been in drug rehab (not prison).
Preliminary diagnoses:
After others have had their ideas of what is the matter shot down by the tests, Masters decides that Kendall has Salmonella enteritis that she got from eating a bad chicken and that settled in her bones.
The final diagnosis
Cancer: lymphoid sarcoma in her left arm.
Who Came up with final diagnosis
Masters came up with the theory that although it turned out to be wrong, led to the MRI that led her and Chase to find the cancer.
Clinic Patients

Additional Information:
  • The last time Masters was on a boat she was 13 and a freshman in college.
  • Masters refuses to turn in her log with the fake lumbar puncture House signed off on and House is annoyed with her for actually still going out to do a lumbar puncture for real.
  • >Masters gives in to lying and breaking the rules and doesn't feel better for it and decides she needs to move on and do something else in medicine other than continue with House.
  • In the end, Masters makes the opposite choice from the one Chase made when he realized being around House and changed him in ways that weren't necessarily for the best.

Quotes, Quotations, Dialogue, Scenes:
Masters wakes up running through medicine in her mind. Her roommate tells her not to bother as they are third year. Masters responds, "You don't have to face House every day."
"And after today neither do you. Here's to no more coming home in tears."
"It's kind of like coming to the end of an extreme roller coaster. Even with the terror, nausea, and whiplash, I'm a little sad that its over."
  • Masters is trying to get her last Lumbar puncture in order to turn in the report she needs. But another student keeps getting there before her. While she is sparing with him, her roommate comes up and tells her, "There's an opening in the Diagnosic's Department."
The other student is surprised, "House wants an intern?"
Masters is doubtful. "He never has before."
Her roommate thinks she knows what is happening. "You got to figure he doesn't want an intern, he wants you."

  • Masters is confused. Her roommate tells her, "You're weird....You rub people the wrong way. But House is okay with you having no bedside manner. He's okay with you willing to ague any point with anyone even if they outrank you. He's okay with your peculiar fashion sense....House doesn't think you're weird which is weird but good weird."

  • Masters asks Cuddy for advice. "This is my last day as a medical student....House has opened an internship."
"You do realize that if you take it, he'll probably end up firing you again."
       "He's always hired me back."
"And he'll continue mocking and insulting you whatever chance he gets."
       "It's certainly toughened me up."
Cuddy doesn't respond until Masters pushes her. Then she still refuses to be baited. "I'm trying to make you make your own decision and leave me alone." But then she does offer a little more. "Working with House is great. And it sucks. Often simultaneously. Most people can't work in that environment. Question is: can you?"

  • Foreman tells Masters, "I'm glad you're going to be sticking around after today."
"Really? You want me to stay?"
"It's good o add a different perspective to the department. Someone who remembers there are rules other than House's."
"If I don't play by House's rules, he won't let me in."
       "Find a way around then."
"I'd have to lie to him which is still lying."
Thirteen has heard the conversation and gives her opinion of that. "Lying about a lie, that's practically telling the truth."

  • Masters refuses to use the fake lumbar puncture House signed off on and Thirteen allows her to do one on her for real. While they are doing it, Masters asks her why she can't just tell her co-workers that she doesn't want to talk about where she has been. "House's people have personalities that range from noisy to 'Pardon me while I do this cavity search."
"Do you think there's room for someone who does things differently?"
Thirteen thinks about that. "Not unless House decides that's what he wants."
